Voici un nouvel anime traitant de l'ère samouraï. L'histoire conte la quête de puissance d'un jeune garçon, nommé Ichimura Testunosuke, bien décidé à venger ses parents. Ces derniers ont été assassinés par les extrémistes chôchûs (clan très puissant favorable à l'Empereur). Le meilleur moyen pour parvenir à ses fins est de se faire enrôler au sein du Shinsengumi, puissant groupe de guerriers surnommés : les Loups de Mibu. L'apprentissage d'Ichi est long et parsemé d'embûches puisqu'il commence sa carrière au Shinsengumi comme domestique.
